What will I have to do during the audition?

You will be evaluated based on your musical performance ability, your marching ability, an administrative interview, and your attitude throughout the audition camp.

Preparing for Camp

Print out your Audition Package, and be sure to bring it with you to camp!  Put in the time to practice, and join the appropriate interest group for your caption. If you're not sure, send an e-mail to your caption head (which you can find on our staff page) and they can get you hooked up!

Be prepared to stay overnight for three nights. This includes bringing shower gear (including shower shoes and a towel), toiletries, an air mattress, sleeping bag and anything else you'll need for an overnight stay, including a sufficient supply of any medications you may be taking.  If you have prescribed medications that require refrigeration or secure storage, please contact Three days of meals will be provided, starting with a snack on friday night befor bed.

Take care of your health!  Prepare yourself physically for camp.  You will be working hard all weekend - exercise, proper nutrition and hydration are important, even in the off season!  You will be living with more than a hundred other students for the weekend. Please be considerate! If you have the misfortune to contract a cold or the flu, we would ask you to consider skipping this camp, particularly if you are running a fever.

If you have pre-paid and you are unable to attend for any reason, your camp fees will be refunded, or we can apply them to the next camp as long as you let us know in advance. Please e-mail  if you are registered, but unable to attend.

Everyone should dress and prepare for physical activity (marching, running, stretching, dance, etc.). Wear shoes that have ankle support (running shoes are not recommended) and bring clothing that is appropriate for movement and exercise (e.g. shorts and tee's).  Be sure to bring a sweatshirt, jacket or extra layers in case temperature fluctuates or we go outside! It is December, in the Pacific Northwest.  Don't forget your water bottle or jug!

If you're new to the activity, here's a great video Guide to Packing For Camp.  It's 6 years old but perfectly relevant to today.

Can my parents come to the audition?

Yes! Please invite you parents to come and learn about the Seattle Cascades. Our continued operation is dependent upon the support and volunteerism of many parents, and this is a good opportunity for your parents to ask the many questions they have about the organization.

Please bring your mouthpiece and your audition instrument if you have one. We will have instruments available, but to ensure everyone has a horn, please bring your own if possible. For baritone, euphonium, mellophone & tuba players, if you feel more comfortable playing your audition on a concert horn, that is fine, but you will be expected to perform on a marching instrument during the camp.

Battery & Front Ensemble

Bring your sticks and a practice pad if you have one. Cymbal players should bring gloves if you have them. We will provide audition instruments.

Guard Members

Prepare yourself physically for 3 days of spinning! Practice your fundamentals and be ready for fun! Equipment will be provided for you. Be sure to bring clothing that is ideal for dancing and movement.
