THE INDY STORM

While rehearsing for the national championships, a very unexpected and fast developing storm interrupted ensemble rehearsal Tuesday evening. The staff and members indicated that the winds were so strong that it blew the scaffolding over! Everyone was safe inside during the storm.

NO INJURY-EQUIPMENT TRUCK ACCIDENT

At about 11:00 PM Thursday night our equipment truck was rear ended while traveling from Denton, TX to San Antonio TX. The accident happened while passing through construction in Waco, TX on I-35 at mile post 338A.

There were no members involved in the accident and our truck driver was unhurt. The student buses were far behind the equipment truck at the time. All students and staff are safe.

The truck is currently being taken to a secure storage location, and we will assess the damage in the morning in the daylight. Also at this time we are unsure of what kind of equipment damage there is to marching equipment as the battery and many brass instruments were stored in the back end of the equipment truck.

GRACELAND UNIVERSITY
Last week, prior to the DCI Minnesota show in Minneapolis, the Cascades had an opportunity to visit the small town of Lamoni, IA just north of the Missouri / Iowa border along I-35. What first appeared to be just another sleepy, small town on the DCI tour became unique and very interesting.

It turns out that Lamoni is the home to Graceland University and a thriving Amish community, which is a part of the largest population west of the Mississippi and largely includes Missouri to the south of Lamoni. The folks at Graceland very graciously offered the Cascades the use of their modern stadium facilities for our two days of rehearsal before the Waukee show. Thanks to Frank Perez and Tracy Shaw for all of their help setting everything up for us.

"Cascades. Interesting guard work with the cube. Another corps playing in tune!
Enjoyed the performance."

"Good sound. Nice and big with low brass actually pushing out and being heard. Bit crazy with arms and horns and members coming out of the box at all times. Just some cleaning to do but looks good overall."

"Seattle Cascades. Creepy but very good."

"Cascades over Pioneer."

DENVER DCP QUOTES & COMMENTS
Drum Corps fans watching the Denver live online broadcast get onto drumCorpsPlanet.com forums and comment on what they see. Cascades began their show and a huge lightning storm came through, the members were pulled off the field after the first song. About an hour later, the show resumed and Cascades started from the beginning, performing their entire show.

"Cascades - leaps ahead of last year. Larger corps (few more brass and more guard). Love the new uniforms, especially the plumes and a breadth and challenging show design wise."

"Hell yeah, go cascades"

"AMEN!!!"

"Digging the cascades shakos"

"i love this song!"

"Cascades improved ALOT this year!!! Trumpets shaky, but good foundation to build on!!"

"talk about endurance doing 1 and 3/4 shows in Denver"

"I know. You could tell there were some endurance challenges in the closer...they were running out of steam!"

"Great Show Cascades. Once that cleans up - they should fair well.. Semis?"

"Very interesting show Cascades.. very veryyy interesting. But I freakin love it"

"Nice job by Cascades. It sounds like they have a young brass line. They struggled on parts, but the show is interesting. It's nice to see them on the rebound."

LIGHTING UP THE FIELD
We decided to do something a little special for the 4th of July. The Boise parade was a success, we wanted to keep building morale after a rough couple days of such hectic schedules. The members just starting singing the National Anthem as we are taking the picture. It was a very cool moment.

THE SEASON BEGINS
Rehearsals end at Mt. Angel and the corps moves to Hillsboro for their first show of the season. The show had a great crowd and the performances were wonderful. Cascades earned a 64.1 which is a great first score for the season.

Then off to Seattle to host our first Marching Band Xperience Clinic of the summer. Nearly 200 students were in attendance!

The show that night in Sumner was standing room only and again, the corps put on another great performance. Thanks to the Cascades NYMA Board of Directors for all your hard work in making this show a success!

DOUGLAS COUNTY EMPIRE PRESS
Minnie Obregon became involved with the Cascades Drum & Bugle Corps in 2005, when her son William became a member of the group. Obregon liked the organization so much that she eventually became the group’s head cook, operating a 48-foot mobile kitchen and preparing meals for the corps members when they are on the road. Founded in 1957, the Seattle-based Cascades corps is the oldest nationally touring world-class drum and bugle corps in the Pacific Northwest.....
