Seattle Cascades Look Forward to 2022

Seattle WA – Over the last several months, the Northwest Youth Music Association Board of Directors and Seattle Cascades Leadership have carefully considered our ability to deliver a meaningful and affordable educational experience that protects the health and welfare of our members, staff and volunteers. Reluctantly, we have decided to not field an in-person ensemble for the 2021 marching season.

This was a tough decision for all involved. We dearly miss the challenges of building an engaging and entertaining world-class performance, the adventure of touring the country and the thrill of performing competitively in front of a live audience. Unfortunately, the tuition costs required to support an in-person experience for the 2021 season would not be equitable for the type of experience we are committed to providing our members and constituents.

Looking Forward As we #ImagineTheFuture, we are hard at work preparing for an exciting 2022 season. For the remainder of the 2021 season, we will continue to offer our Cascade Summit virtual instructional programs for Brass, Color Guard and Percussion students. In April, we will be introducing our audio engineering team, and offering visual and technique classes tailored for all captions. In the month of May, we will be featuring Choreographer Michael James who will deliver a session covering “Performance Artistry”. At the conclusion of the 2021 Summit program, our efforts will turn towards hitting the ground running for the 2022 season, with an outstanding educational program and a show we believe will be one of the strongest ever fielded by the Seattle Cascades.

The Board of Directors and Corps Leadership are leveraging this pause in on-field activities to review and update our health and wellness policies, and reinforce our inclusionary practices in order to make our educational programs available and affordable to the widest possible audience. In addition, we are in the process of updating our 3-5-10 year Strategic Plans to protect the long term health of our organization, and ensure our ability to continue to provide outstanding educational experiences for future generations.

The Seattle Cascades and Northwest Youth Music Association wish all 2021 DCI participating corps a safe and successful summer tour, and we look forward to rejoining in 2022.
