SEATTLE, WA In recent weeks, the State of Washington and King County has made national news as an area of where the Coronavirus (COVID-19) has been identified. At least 44 cases of the virus have been diagnosed and 10 of those cases have resulted in fatalities due to the outbreak. Due to this growing concern and widespread outbreak, and in an effort to protect our members, staff and volunteers the Northwest Youth Music Association has made the decision to cancel the March 20-22 rehearsal camp.
Our Corps Leadership and Board of Directors have been closely monitoring the situation surrounding the COVID-19 outbreak. Our members, volunteers and staff are also our friends and family. We believe it is in everyone’s best interest to err on the side of caution, this is based in part on recommendations published by the King County Public Health department.
“This decision was not an easy one, but we need to proceed with caution and to ensure the best possible health and well-being of our members, volunteers and staff’ said Brian Smith, Director of Seattle Cascades. “As the level of events continues to grow here in the Pacific Northwest surrounding the COVID-19 virus, it is important to be proactive and act with caution as health and safety are of the utmost importance”
We anticipate returning to our published schedule in April, with a full-corps camp April 24 – 26, but will of course continue to monitor information and guidance from local, state and federal officials and adjust our plans as necessary.
