Seattle Cascades Clinic

The day’s activities begin with a clinic for brass, percussion and colorguard students, ages 14-21.  Performers will learn marching techniques and music from the outstanding Cascades staff from 1-5pm, receive a t-shirt and eat a meal with the Seattle Cascades.

 

The clinic fee is $50 per student and also includes free admission to the evening show.

Clinic Attendees need:

  1. Comfortable clothes you can easily move in

  2. Athletic Shoes that tie (no boots or sandals

  3. Sun Protection – Including sun glasses, brimmed hat or cap, sun screen

  4. Minimum ½ Gallon Water Jug full (only water please)

  5. A willingness to try new things and have fun!

 

Musicians:

  1. Music Stand

  2. Music printed off and in a binder with plastic inserts.

  3. Safety Pins to hold music in place

  4. An instrument to play on including sticks/mallets/mouthpieces, etc.

 (Mallet percussion will share with Cascades members)

 

Color Guard:

  1. A flag on a 6-foot pole

The music will be posted online and can be downloaded with your registration, it includes the technique book and one piece of music that you will play together with members of the Seattle Cascades at the showcase in the evening, or for color guard a video of the routine you will be doing.

 

Schedule

12:30pm: Registration Check-In and receive your t-shirt. Musician should already have the music printed out and ready

1:00pm: Orientation Quick Introduction – Then move to Sectionals:

              Winds with the Seattle Cascades Brass Section

              Battery Percussion with the Seattle Cascades Percussion Section

              Front Ensemble with the Seattle Cascades Front Ensemble Section

              Color Guard with the Seattle Cascades Color Guard

You will warm up with the ensemble using exercises from the technique book and you will learn a proper warm-up routine designed to help you maximize your performance, and then work on and prepare for performance about 1 minute of music that will be part of our performance in the evening.

 

3:30 pm: Full Ensemble

You will be invited into the stands to watch a 90 minute full ensemble of the Seattle Cascades Drum and Bugle Corps. An instructor will be in the stands with you explaining what is happening on the field and the instructors on the mic will describe what they are seeing/hearing and why they are giving the instructions the way they are.

 

5:00 pm: Dinner

You will eat a meal with the Seattle Cascades as if you are a member and will get some time to hang out with the members and ask questions about their drum corps experience.

5:45 pm: Show Prep and IPT

The Seattle Cascades members will change into their Uniforms and prepare for the performance, you will have some time to go over the music on your own.

 

6:15 pm: Final Prep

You will join the Cascades in Warm-up for the show and do a final run through of the showcase performance.

6:55 pm: You will move to the field and set-up for performance.

7:00 pm Showcase Begins

              Introduction

 

Seattle Cascades plays the National Anthem

Clinic Performers perform their showcase routines, and then exit to the stands to watch the rest of the showcase.

Other Performance Ensembles Perform

The Seattle Cascades perform their 2023 Show: Revival   

Following the show the members of the Seattle Cascades will be available for pictures and final good-byes for about 30 minutes before they have to pack up and prepare to depart for the next day.
