fantastic february camp
So many great accomplishments at this camp as the brass & percussion played the entire show from top to bottom for the first time this year. Seeing all the excited & smiling faces on the students and staff was amazing. "To be completing the music book for the entire show this early in the season is HUGE for the Cascades," stated John Freeman, long time Cascades staff member.
NYMA Board President Mike Bujnowski was along for the ride this weekend and was extremely positive upon seeing how things are moving forward with the drum corps. Support staff fitted all performers for the new uniforms and after a long process of sorting through many qualified candidates, the announcement of the Assistant Conductor was made. Caitlin Heber was selected to join Bennie Hodder's continued leadership as Drum Majors for the 2011 season. The guard continued to learn more choreography for the closer. This is a great leap forward for the guard and so much farther along than in most recent years.
This winter season, the corps is trying something new with our scheduling and taking the month of March off from camps. We have learned that it is a high-conflict month. We are using the time to rejuvinate the design of the show. The design team and our consultants will be scouring through the 2011 program and in some cases reconstructing specific sections of the show to be prepared for the April camp with an even better program.
Once again all students and staff came up with nothing short of having a very exciting, positive, and high energy weekend. Thank you again to all students, staff, and support staff for a very successful February camp. We are currently still looking to fill spots on tuba, baritone, and color guard and can't wait to do it all again at the April camp, keep up the great work Cascades!
