january camp report
Our January camp was a very successful and exciting weekend. For those that remember 2009's January camp, the weather was a frightening blizzard and plenty of ice making for a tough ride home, but not this year! Temperate temperatures allowing everyone to focus on building a great drum corps.
The energy from the students was simply overwhelming. The Cascades is definitely on the path back to being a sought out World Class Drum Corps to spend a summer marching with. Attracting members from beyond our region, we again have members traveling from Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Utah, California, New Mexico, Canada and Japan to attend camps. Visual Caption Head John Freeman, says, "The energy from the members has been unbelievably positive. We as staff are so excited about the experience the students are having."
During the entire weekend there was a great collection of volunteers helping to move the corps forward. It's not always the most thrilling of tasks; organizing, repairing and uniform work, but the reward for the volunteers is the knowledge of a job well done and a sincere thank you from the staff and members.
Saturday and Sunday nights the members spent some time in the auditorium watching what else? Drum Corps. We also previewed the animation of the drill in pyware and bonded the group with social exercises and reviewing our handbook. The corps reached all of our visual and musical goals for the weekend. Working on technique and also playing through 4 pieces in our repertoire by the end of the camp.
There are a few spots available in the Brass and Colorguard. If you are interested in participating this summer, please sign up online and a staff member will contact you to help you get started.
